Nairn Dunbar is a formidable Championship golf course but is often overlooked
by visitors on a golf tour for its more famous neighbour, Nairn Golf Club.
A course which is enjoyable for all levels of player, Nairn Dunbar was
lengthened to 6765 yards in 1994. However the shorter hitter of the ball will
not suffer from the long carries from the tee that are common at other
championship courses. The course therefore remains approachable for a range of
golfing abilities.
Accuracy is the key here as the course is full of natural hazards. The fairways
are lined with gorse and there are mature trees, winding waterways, ditches and
bunkers. The sea also comes into play on six of the first seven holes.
The golf course was founded to allow working men and women to enjoy "the royal
and ancient game of golf" and this principle holds firm today. Nairn Dunbar is
as renowned for its openness and friendliness as for its technical challenge.
Nairn Dunbar and Nairn Golf Club
jointly staged the British Seniors
Amateur Championship in 2007 and the course has been host to a number of
national championships in recent years.
