Lee Trevino is quoted as saying on the first tee of the Gleneagles King's course
- "If Heaven is as good as this, I sure hope they have some tee times left."
This is an excellent golf course to include in any golfing package tour visiting central Scotland.
The King's course is one of golf architect James Braid's finest moments. Opened in 1919, it was
designed to test even the best players' shot making skills over the full 18
holes. You find this out right at the first, which looks a simple pitch to an
elevated green. But the shot is always a little longer than you think, and if
you miss, there's a strategically placed bunker ready to catch your ball.
And the green offers some interesting problems too!
The King's golf course rises and falls over land that contributes to it being one of the
most beautiful inland courses in Scotland. There are sweeping views across the
Perthshire hills all around.
